When the Helmet Goes On

A welder lowers their hood. Everything goes dark until they strike an arc and the work comes into view.

A football player buckles their chinstrap. A catcher pulls on their mask. A goalie settles into position. A motorcyclist puts on his helmet and positions his goggles just right.

Before that moment, there’s anticipation. Replaying the plan. Thinking about what might happen.

Then the helmet goes on.

Distractions fall away. Our attention shifts to the task at hand.

We stop rehearsing life and start living it.

We can spend hours, days, or even years preparing for something important.

But eventually, we put our helmet on.

And it’s go time.
